The Mets are on a roll, and have been for a week and a half. Through the 9-1 homestand, the park was pretty much empty. Why are fans staying away from CitiField despite the team playing so well?
I went to Twitter to find out why and here are some answers from fans:
I’m a broke college student, The end. - @TheRopolitans
Out of town fan. Making the pilgrimage this season hopefully. - @natelopez53
Weather + money + small child. Had a ticket plan for years, can’t afford it anymore. I will go, just can’t go 20x a year anymore - @scratchbomb
I’m slammed with schoolwork, the weather’s been meh and there’s a big gap between the first and second game in my ticket pack. - @maggie162
Cost, travel, obstructed views, incomplete views of the field concerns, if I’m going to invest the first two, I want to see. - @pattigibbons
Because I live in Cincinnati :) - @kdoster
The weather sucked the last few days - @NYBD
I hate seeing the stadium empty. I don’t care if the #Mets are .600 or .400, I would never pass up a baseball game. - @xoxmc
I live in Chicago. Makes a terrible commute. - @dupreeblue
I live 7 hours away from Citi. I try to get to 2-3 games a year, it’s just a huge time/money investment. - @darknova306
The money became an issue this year as a result of apprehension for the team…Obviously that’s starting to change! :D - @BluEyezJess
I was there yesterday and I can tell you, for a day game in the bitter cold/wind, it was a pretty nice crowd. - @PaulMBourdett
did you see my article about how to fix the attendance problem? service charge for 4 tix = $21 JUST THE SERVICE CHARGE. I only bought a fri plan this yr b/c the weekday plan is terrible. so on the books ‘only 15’ games but have gone 6 times so far - @Metsgrrl
I watch the games, but I don’t want to spend $ to go. I have more important priorities such as my wedding and grad school. - @Vijay7
I didn’t go with all the injuries last year and most important, I hate to pay to go and my team loses. I take losses hard. - @SportsTalkJunke
Most negative vibes from Mets fans in any offseason I can remember. Fans will get excited if they shock the Phillies. - @RotoLogo
went once this year, between tickets tolls and train it costs a couple hundred bucks, I’d love to go to every game but can’t - @LessThanTom
maybe no ones going to citifield to send a message to the Wilpons…enough is enough! - @ant7701
MrL’s reasons: 1.anger at the Wilpons (although the last week has seen a marked reduction in said anger!) 2. money - @LadyMet
because the cheap seats aren’t actually cheap anymore , plus the weather sucks - @justinleon
