Question for Howard Megdal : Do you spend a lot of time in the Dominican Republic?

Howard Megdal is running for Mets GM, one of our readers asked about Howard’s scouting plans, and if he’s had experience scouting talent in the DR. Here is Howard’s response:

As General Manager, I’d explore every area for talent. Not only would the Mets continue to scout Latin America, I’d make sure new talent academies were built across Europe, Asia and Africa. This way, the Mets can be at the forefront of any developing baseball talent throughout the world. Think of it this way- let’s say Europe, Asia and Africa produce three star players each in the next decade- won’t getting them inexpensively as amateurs be worth the price of setting up those academies? Moreover, this will spread the New York Mets to hundreds of millions of potential new fans as well.
